In a letter to George Brett, MacMillian Company, New York in April 1910 Stephens wrote:
"..., I have been forwarded a small book consisting of the "Lonely God" and six other poems. On the fly leaf is printed that this book was copyrighted and published in 1909. Have you published the book or not? ...
I should hate the poems which are collected in this small book to go out, as the smaller poems are very bad ones - in comparison with the Lonely God."
